We are seeking a reliable and skilled Outside Plant Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications infrastructure. This role involves working in outdoor environments to deploy fiber optic and copper cabling, troubleshoot network issues, and ensure high-quality service delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience in OSP construction, strong technical knowledge, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, splice, test, and maintain fiber optic and copper cables in aerial and underground environments
- Read and interpret engineering plans, schematics, and utility maps
- Perform site surveys and mark locations for cable routes and equipment placement
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment such as fusion splicers, OTDRs, trenchers, and cable locators
- Troubleshoot and repair network faults in the field
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, local regulations, and company procedures
- Document work performed, including test results, materials used, and site conditions
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and utility companies
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work sites and vehicles
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients or property owners.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications a plus
- 1–3 years of experience in telecommunications or utility installation
- Familiarity with fiber optic and copper cable technologies
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and utility locates
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) with clean driving record
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and OSHA standards
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with fiber splicing and testing equipment
- Knowledge of GIS mapping and documentation tools
- CDL Class A or B
- OSHA 10 or First Aid/CPR certification
