Job Summary:
The OTR Trucking Dispatcher is responsible for managing and coordinating the movement of freight and drivers across long-haul routes. This role ensures efficient, timely, and cost-effective transportation while maintaining strong communication with drivers, customers, and internal teams. The dispatcher monitors shipments, resolves issues as they arise, and ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations. Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor driver assignments and freight loads for long-haul routes.
- Communicate daily with drivers to provide detailed instructions, updates, and support.
- Track and document the status and location of shipments using dispatch software.
- Resolve delays, breakdowns, and other in-transit issues promptly and efficiently.
- Ensure drivers comply with DOT regulations, hours-of-service rules, and company policies.
- Maintain records of driver activities, routes, and delivery schedules.
- Liaise with customers to provide shipment status updates and resolve service issues.
- Collaborate with fleet maintenance and safety teams to address equipment or compliance concerns.
- Optimize load assignments to maximize efficiency and profitability.
- Handle emergency situations and unexpected changes in route or schedule.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in trucking, logistics, or dispatching preferred
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and trucking industry standards preferred.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
- Proficiency with dispatch software and Microsoft Office Excel
- Ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Work Environment:
- Office-based, with frequent use of computers, phones, and dispatch systems
- May require extended hours and some Saturday mornings during peak periods.
Reports To:
- Operations Manager or Dispatch Supervisor
