Overhead Crane Inspector & Field Service Technician – Wichita, Kansas
Pay Rate: $30–40/hour
Job Summary
Seeking a skilled Overhead Crane Inspector, Field Service Technician, and Industrial Maintenance Technician to perform equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services on overhead cranes, hoists, and lifting systems. This role is essential to ensuring OSHA compliance, workplace safety, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency within industrial environments. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, diagnostic skills, and experience with electromechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Inspections & Compliance
- Conduct crane inspections in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.179, ANSI B30, and CMAA standards
- Evaluate mechanical, electrical, and structural components for safety compliance and deficiencies
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, documenting corrective actions and compliance status
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations, industry standards, and compliance requirements
Service, Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and field repairs on crane systems and hoists
- Respond to emergency breakdowns, including on-call and after-hours service
- Execute advanced electrical troubleshooting, including AC/DC systems, 480 VAC, and three-phase motor controls
- Diagnose issues using root cause analysis and perform safe, authorized repairs
Customer & Internal Communication
- Communicate findings and service recommendations to customers clearly and professionally
- Review completed work and obtain customer sign-off on service documentation
- Provide daily reporting and updates to service management
- Identify equipment upgrade opportunities and support service sales initiatives
Documentation & Asset Management
- Complete service reports, inspection documentation, time tracking, and expense reports accurately
- Maintain service vehicle inventory, tools, and equipment
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and equipment certification standards
- Uphold quality assurance standards and maintain a professional appearance
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training, trade school, or military experience preferred
- NCCCO Crane Inspector Certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2+ years of crane inspection, crane maintenance, or field service technician experience
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and CMAA regulations
- Proficiency in electrical systems, motor controls, and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Experience working at heights and handling heavy equipment (75+ lbs.)
- Strong communication skills, technical documentation, and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital reporting tools
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
Work Requirements
- Ability to work overtime, on-call rotations, and travel assignments
- Comfortable working in industrial job sites
- Must pass background check, drug screening, and physical exam
- Maintain clean driving record and obtain DOT Medical Card
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
