We are seeking an experienced OWCP / Department of Labor (DOL) Appeals Specialist to assist with federal workers' compensation claims and appeals. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the OWCP claims process, strong insurance or workers' compensation claims experience, and a proven ability to prepare successful appeals and supporting documentation.
This role requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify weaknesses in claim determinations and develop effective appeal strategies.
Responsibilities
· Review OWCP claim files, decisions, and supporting documentation.
· Analyze denied or partially denied claims and identify appeal opportunities.
· Prepare Requests for Reconsideration, Hearing Requests, and ECAB appeal submissions.
· Review medical evidence and coordinate with physicians to obtain narrative reports and supporting documentation.
· Develop comprehensive appeal strategies based on OWCP regulations, policy guidance, and case precedent.
· Identify procedural, factual, and medical deficiencies in OWCP decisions.
· Communicate with claimants, attorneys, medical providers, and other stakeholders.
· Track appeal deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
· Prepare written summaries, reports, and recommendations.
Qualifications
Required
· 5+ years of experience with OWCP, FECA, federal workers' compensation, or related DOL claims programs.
· Strong background in insurance claims, workers' compensation claims adjusting, or appeals management.
· Experience preparing and managing administrative appeals.
· Excellent written communication and legal-document drafting skills.
· Strong understanding of medical evidence review and causation issues.
· Ability to independently analyze complex claim files.
Preferred
· Former OWCP Claims Examiner, Hearing Representative, or federal workers' compensation specialist.
· Experience with ECAB appeals.
· Workers' compensation certifications or related professional credentials.
· Legal assistant, paralegal, or claims litigation support experience.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
