Job Summary:
The School Counselor at Prince of Peace Christian School supports the school's mission of "Providing a Christ-Centered Exemplary Education for Each Child" by fostering the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being of students in Pre-K through 12th grade. Working within a loving, Christian environment, this position provides comprehensive counseling services, crisis intervention, and develops age-appropriate social-emotional learning curriculum that aligns with Board-approved curriculum guides. The School Counselor collaborates with faculty, parents, and administration to create a safe and nurturing atmosphere where each child can thrive spiritually, academically, and emotionally while developing the skills needed to navigate life's challenges with faith and resilience.

Responsibilities/Duties:
· Provide first line of response in crisis situations for students, families, and faculty
· Provide individual and group counseling services addressing social, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual needs of students in Pre-K through 12th grade
· Maintain open lines of communication with families and provide ongoing support and follow-up as needed
· Implement and maintain standardized documentation of student emotional and mental wellness across all grade levels
· Recognize patterns within student files to identify needs and implement appropriate intervention strategies
· Communicate necessary interventions with administration and faculty in a timely manner
· Develop and deliver age-appropriate social-emotional learning curriculum for all grade levels in accordance with Board-approved curriculum guides
· Train and equip teachers to recognize student distress and potential challenges through quarterly professional development sessions
· Create and deliver ongoing professional development for faculty pertaining to emotional and mental wellness
· Develop a network of trusted, reliable community resources and contractors for faculty and families
· Provide appropriate referrals to outside professionals and services as necessary
· Organize information sessions for families and school personnel on relevant topics affecting Prince of Peace Christian School families
· Coordinate and host outside speakers to address current issues and concerns
· Create and disseminate well-researched, applicable resources to students and families
· Provide documentation support and answer documentation questions for faculty, parents, and students as needed
· Maintain confidential student records in compliance with FERPA and school policies
· Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as required
· Perform other duties as assigned by administration in support of the school's mission
Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
Required:
· Active member of a Christian church, preferably a member of an LCMS church
· Bachelor's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field from an accredited four-year college or university
· Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential
· Demonstrated commitment to working within a Christ-centered educational environment
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Proficiency with technology and student information systems
Preferred:
· Master's degree in School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or related field
· Previous experience as a school counselor, preferably in a Pre-K through 12th grade setting
· Experience developing and implementing social-emotional learning curriculum
· Training in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care
· Familiarity with student documentation systems and data management
· Experience providing professional development to educators
· Knowledge of community mental health resources in the Dallas/Carrollton area

Physical Requirements:
The School Counselor must be able to perform the following physical tasks with or without reasonable accommodation:
· Ability to move throughout the school campus to meet with students, attend meetings, and respond to crisis situations in various locations (classrooms, offices, playground, etc.)
· Ability to sit for extended periods during counseling sessions, meetings, and documentation work; ability to stand and move between locations throughout the school day
· Ability to speak clearly and listen attentively during individual and group counseling sessions, presentations, and professional development training
· Ability to read student files, documentation, and computer screens for extended periods; ability to observe student behavior and non-verbal cues
· Ability to use computer keyboard, mouse, and other technology for documentation, communication, and curriculum development
· Occasional lifting of materials, supplies, or educational resources up to 25 pounds
· Ability to work in various school environments including classrooms, offices, outdoor spaces, and during school events
· Ability to maintain composure and provide support during high-stress crisis situations and emotionally demanding counseling sessions
· Ability to respond quickly to urgent situations and adapt to changing priorities throughout the school day
Schedule:
This is a 10-month position following the Prince of Peace Christian School academic calendar. Onsite presence Monday through Friday during regular school hours is required. The School Counselor must be available for occasional work outside normal hours to complete assigned tasks and projects, and must attend staff meetings, in-service training, open houses, and special events as requested by the Head of School. Flexibility to respond to crisis situations is essential.
