School Counselor Job Description
Job Summary
The School Counselor provides guidance and support to students to help them succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. They work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling to students dealing with academic, social, or emotional challenges
- Help students develop academic plans and set educational goals
- Assist with college and career readiness, including applications and planning
- Identify students’ needs and provide appropriate interventions or referrals
- Support students with behavioral or mental health concerns
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success
- Conduct assessments and interpret student data to guide counseling strategies
- Develop and implement school counseling programs
- Respond to crisis situations and provide immediate support when needed
- Promote a positive and inclusive school climate
- ________________________________________Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, education, or related field (Master’s degree often required)
- State certification or licensure as a school counselor
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development
- Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Experience working with children or adolescents preferred
