Paid Gap Year Clinical and Research Experience Opportunity

We are seeking a gap-year student (pre-medical) for a position at our sleep medicine and neurology center. The position requires a commitment to remain with the company until June 30, 2027 (with the option to extend this to June 30, 2028). This is a competitive position, and applicants are encouraged to apply early. This is an excellent opportunity to gain clinical and research experience with direct interaction with two double-board certified physicians (neurology and sleep medicine, pediatrics and emergency medicine) who enjoy teaching and mentoring learners. Paid training will be provided. The position is for June 2026, but can be available immediately if desired.

Clinical experience opportunities:

• Participate in ongoing clinical research trials as the assistant to our clinical research coordinator
• Opportunity to contribute to medical publications
• Direct patient interaction: shadow and scribe for the physicians
• Electronic medical record experience
• Assist in conducting neurophysiology studies
• Assist in preparation of neurophysiology reports
• Opportunity to present posters at national conferences
• Periodic journal clubs and lecture series presented by physicians
• Gain experience with medical insurances
• Work with the physician utilizing hypoglossal and vagal nerve stimulators

Required Tasks:

• Provide assistance with clinical research projects
• Schedule new and existing patients onto clinicians' schedules
• Enter new patients into electronic medical record system
• Triage incoming faxes and send outgoing faxes
• Verify insurance benefits for office visits and sleep studies
• Conduct daytime neurophysiology studies (with oversight)
• Prepare neurophysiology reports for physician review
• Prepare clinical charts for daily clinic
• Prepare prescriptions in the electronic record for physician review and signature
• Answering and returning telephone calls
• Collecting co-payments
• Submitting prior authorization requests for medications
