PARALEGAL – SPECIAL LITIGATION SECTION/OFFICE OF SOLICITOR GENERAL

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking to hire a paralegal to join the Special Litigation Section (SLS) of the Office of Solicitor General. The SLS team is responsible for significant civil litigation in the State. SLS focuses on protecting and upholding Arkansas laws and the Constitution. Recent high-profile cases managed by SLS include defending school choice through the LEARNS Act—considered to be among the most significant conservative education reforms in the country; defending social media legislation that protects minors from harmful content; preserving election integrity; protecting the public from dangerous drugs like Delta-8; and strengthening the criminal justice system by defending laws that are ending the state’s longstanding catch-and-release approach to criminal prosecution. Specific issues litigated include constitutional challenges involving Equal Protection Clause, Due Process Clause, preemption, freedom of speech, and the opportunity to litigate matters of first impression.

Candidates should have experience drafting correspondence, scheduling meetings, maintaining files, and arranging virtual and telephonic meetings. Candidates must be able to proficiently use all basic computer programs including the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive), Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat Professional. Candidates should also be familiar with the state and federal courts’ filing systems. Ideally, candidates would have experience formatting appellate briefs, cite-checking using Bluebook, and using Westlaw.

Candidates must be prepared to collaborate with multiple attorneys in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate an understanding of the federal court system, and understand how appeals are handled.  The ideal candidate will have experience reviewing documents for filing, collaborating with outside printers and vendors, and handling travel arrangements and reimbursements, and be detail oriented.

Candidates must have at least an associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field, but a bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Paralegal certification is also preferred (through NALA or NFPA).

The Office of the Attorney General is an equal opportunity employer.

State of Arkansas job applications will not be accepted in place of a résumé.

When applying, please email a current resume with a minimum salary requirement, three professional references, and a cover letter addressed to positions@arkansasag.gov.
