As a Freelance Paralegal at Shiloh, you'll support our legal needs, protect user privacy, and help translate complex legal requirements into practical, compliance-focused workflows — all while working within a team that shows the love of Christ.
Your Role:
- Legal Support Specialist: Assist attorneys and internal teams with legal research, drafting, and document preparation for contracts, compliance, privacy, and open-source licensing matters.
- Compliance Implementer: Help translate privacy, data protection, and regulatory requirements into plain language.
- Document Maestro: Prepare, organize, and maintain legal files, pleadings, corporate records, NDAs, vendor agreements, and licensing documentation.
- Risk Spotter: Identify potential legal risks in contracts, policies, and operational procedures and propose practical mitigation steps.
- Project Contributor: Support policy creation (privacy-focused product language, terms of service, contributor agreements) and help with IP and open-source compliance tasks.
Key Objectives:
- Timely Deliverables: Produce high-quality legal drafts, memos, and research on time to meet business and regulatory deadlines.
- Risk Reduction: Identify and reduce legal and compliance risks through proactive review and clear recommendations.
- Compliance Enablement: Create or refine templates, checklists, and playbooks to make legal compliance practical.
- Organized Records: Maintain accurate and searchable legal files and contract databases.
- Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, and leadership to integrate legal considerations early in the development lifecycle.
What We're Looking For:
- 3+ years’ experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, preferably with exposure to tech, privacy, or IP matters.
- Familiarity with US privacy laws/regulations (e.g., CCPA, GDPR) and open-source licensing principles.
- Strong legal research, drafting, and document-management skills.
- Proven ability to turn legal requirements into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyers.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and strong attention to detail.
- Self-starter comfortable working remotely and managing multiple priorities on deadline.
- Ability to work in PST hours for overlap with the team.

- Bonus: Experience with contract management tools, privacy program tooling, or prior work with startups and remote teams.
