INTRODUCTION
NAAG Forensic PC is an independent, nonpartisan forensic pathology practice. We provide "first" and "second" forensic pathology opinions for medical examiners, coroners, attorneys (criminal, civil, and administrative law), law enforcement, governmental agencies, and next-of-kin. Our medicolegal case consultations span the globe.
As our practice expands, we seek additional Paralegal / Forensic Case Manager to play a critical role in supporting legal and forensic operations, ensuring seamless case management, discovery coordination, and administrative organization.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The role of the Paralegal is essential to our organization, and is suited for an individual with exceptional organizational and communication skills. This multi-faceted position requires interaction with various stakeholders, meticulous handling of sensitive information, and providing comprehensive support across administrative and legal tasks, with a strong emphasis on paralegal duties. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Outstanding organizational capabilities to manage case materials and legal documentation.
- Superior interpersonal communication for liaising with law enforcement, attorneys, and forensic experts.
- Proficiency in computer technology and legal practice management systems, with familiarity in forensic and medical terminologies.
- Ability to draft legal documents such as affidavits, declarations, complaints, and other case-related/court filings.
- An aptitude for legal research.
- The ability to effectively participate in trial preparation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interface with agency staff, law enforcement, attorneys, coroners, and family members, providing high-level coordination and communication.
- Manage discovery materials by gathering, organizing, and preparing case files, including medical records, autopsy reports, law enforcement documents, and forensic test/lab results.
- Coordinate with attorneys and assist in case preparation, ensuring all necessary documentation is compiled and ready for medical or legal avaluation.
- Conduct case work-ups, create timelines, develop charts and graphs of medical / laboratory data, and prepare exhibits for trial.
- Manage subpoenas for records, coordinating with attorneys and medical professionals to obtain necessary documentation.
- Manage appointment scheduling, set up virtual meetings, and take detailed notes for forensic consultations and legal proceedings.
- Oversee administrative duties, such as phone calls, record-keeping, document distribution, and case management system updates.
- Act as associate Custodian-of-Records, ensuring strict confidentiality and compliance with legal standards.
- Manage electronic files and forensic documentation, including professional forensic photography and evidence organization.
- Assist in legal tasks, supporting the senior paralegal, agency General Counsel, agency Forensic Attorneys, and outside counsel to ensuring seamless case processing and timely actions in legal matters.
- Input case information into the database management system and oversee discovery-specific responsibilities.
- Provide comprehensive support for the forensic autopsy program, ensuring meticulous maintenance of schedules and documentation.
- Oversee the management and organization of medical records, ensuring compliance with medico-legal regulations.
- Demonstrate proficiency in legal practice management software, leveraging technology for efficient case handling and data organization.
REQUIREMENTS
- Computer literacy including "ready to use" skills with both Apple and PC computers, Windows, Microsoft Office software including Outlook 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
- Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills
- Ability to successfully complete a Background Investigation (including criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening)
- Must be able to legally work in the USA
- Must be able and willing to travel, including by airplane to international locations when required (must have or be willing and able to obtain a passport, and must be allowed to travel to, and enter into foreign countries)
- Must be able and willing to work with medical content that many people would consider highly disturbing including photographs of extreme violence to living and deceased individuals, including young children
- Must be able and willing to be exposed to investigative materials/content that many people would consider objectionable including pornography
- Must be willing and able to work odd hours including "on-call" and "overnight" for special projects
