The Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi is Hawaiʻi’s oldest and largest non-profit public interest law firm with offices statewide. Through its dedicated staff, Legal Aid helps ensure justice and fairness for all by providing civil legal aid to the most vulnerable in our society.
We are seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) intake paralegal to serve the low-income and disadvantaged community of Lanai. Responsibilities include client assistance in
family law (including divorce, divorce modification, paternity, restraining orders, and some guardianship and adoptions),
public assistance benefits,
housing and
consumer protection, senior legal services, and
community outreach.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain client/case management information.

Works effectively with diverse low-income and disadvantaged populations

Primary point of contact for partner agencies regarding outreach needs, locations, schedules.
- In consultation with Managing Attorney, identify possible additional outreach locations and partners.
- Provide outreach and legal services in the community as needed.
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or equivalent experience required;

Experience in case/client management strongly preferred;

Familiarity with local community needs strongly preferred;

Paralegal experience preferred;

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse low-income and disadvantaged populations strongly preferred;

Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner;

Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks with attention to detail;

Ability to work collaboratively and maintain good working relationships with fellow team members who are located off-island;

Humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and limited English proficiency, is a must.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office and strong computer skills required;

Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel to various parts of Lanai. Compensation: $21.74 to 28.80 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
