Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Paralegal to support a Government Legal Office in litigation management, legal research, compliance review, and document preparation.
This role is ideal for a legal professional experienced in litigation support, discovery coordination, and legal drafting within a fast-paced public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Legal Counsel with active litigation matters
- Conduct in-depth legal research on statutes, administrative codes, judicial decisions, and case law
- Draft legal documents including:
- Briefs
- Pleadings
- Appeals
- Affidavits
- Subpoenas
- Contracts
- Legal notices
- Respond to discovery requests, interrogatories, and production requests
- Prepare and organize documentation related to subpoenas and litigation
- Investigate facts and legal issues to determine causes of action
- Maintain proper indexing and filing of legal documents
- Review state codes and administrative rules for potential updates
- Process Public Records Requests and expungement orders
- Maintain litigation tracking lists and documentation
- Track training hours and coordinate Continuing Legal Education (CLE) registrations
- Provide administrative and legal support to the Legal Office as required
Required Qualifications
Must possess a High School Diploma or GED and meet ONE of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree with 12+ credit hours in law or paralegal studies
- Bachelor’s degree + Paralegal Certificate
- Bachelor’s degree + 2 years full-time paralegal experience
- Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies + 2 years legal experience
- Paralegal certification + 2 years full-time experience
- PACE Certification (NFPA)
- CORE Certification (NFPA)
- CLA/CP Certification
Preferred Skills
- Experience using legal research platforms such as LexisNexis and Westlaw
- Strong knowledge of litigation processes and discovery procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher)
- Excellent legal writing and proofreading skills
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $20.00 per hour
