Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant or Paralegal with experience or strong interest in probate administration and estate planning. This role involves supporting attorneys in managing probate matters, preparing estate planning documents, and maintaining client relationships with compassion, discretion, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Probate Administration
  • Draft and file probate pleadings, inventories, accountings, and related documents with the Probate Court.
  • Communicate with courts, fiduciaries, and beneficiaries to track case progress and deadlines.
  • Assist with estate administration, including collection and distribution of assets, creditor notifications, and closing estates.
  • Estate Planning Support
  • Prepare estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives under attorney supervision.
  • Organize and maintain client estate planning files.
  • Conduct research on estate, probate, and tax issues as needed.
  • Client & Case Management
  • Serve as a professional, client-facing contact for questions and updates.
  • Maintain accurate and organized case files in both physical and digital formats.
  • Track deadlines, manage calendars, and assist with scheduling meetings and signings.
  • Administrative & Legal Support
  • Prepare correspondence, memos, and summaries of legal documents.
  • Assist with billing, time entries, and matter management.
  • Provide general support to attorneys in other practice areas as needed.

Qualifications

  • Encouraged Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies (or equivalent experience).
  • Paralegal certification preferred, but not required.
  • Prior experience in probate, estate planning, or trust administration strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, courts, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with legal practice management software.
