Paralegal / Subrogation Specialist

Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer, S.C., a growing national insurance subrogation and litigation firm with offices in Hartford, WI; New Orleans, LA; Irvine, CA; Austin, TX; and Jacksonville, FL, is seeking a reliable and proactive Paralegal / Subrogation Specialist to join our rapidly growing team at our Jacksonville, FL branch. This position is fully remote. Candidate must be detail-oriented and comfortable with handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Paralegal/Subrogation Specialist Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work directly with two outstanding attorneys by conducting legal research, scheduling depositions and appointments, maintaining a detailed calendar, preparing drafts of discovery demands and responses, preparing for trial, preparing demand letters, as well as preparing drafts of other various legal documents;
  • Documenting and understanding legal proceedings in local and national settings, including utilization of PACER, ECF systems, and e-filing;
  • Converse directly with lawyers, clients, administrative staff, clerical personnel, courtroom staff members;
  • Answer phones and take messages as needed;
  • Handle pre-suit auto subrogation cases nationwide, including litigation legal assistant support for attorney(s).
  • Proofread legal documents, such as briefs and pleadings;
  • Maintain and organize electronic files; update files with case status and information.
  • Strong communication skills are necessary as this position has close contact with counsel and clients across the country.
  • Our ideal candidate is someone with experience in civil litigation, particularly with respect to reviewing insurance claims files, assembling, and preparing damages supports for property losses.

Paralegal/Subrogation Specialist Requirements and Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies or certification is a plus.
  • Experience with Epic also a plus.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Court civil procedure.
  • Mediation preparation for property damage and defense medical records a strong plus.
  • Must be able to handle deadlines and have a strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work overtime if needed.
  • Must be a team player where no task is too small or unimportant when working on projects.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office with a knowledge of document/case management and timekeeping software, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Share File and PACER is a strong plus.

Starting salary is $55,000, negotiable with experience.
