Paralegal/Assistant

The Mays Johnson Law Firm seeks a 3/4 or full-time paralegal / trustee's assistant. James Johnson practices construction law. Rob Mays serves a bankruptcy trustee and receiver, collects judgments, and represents commercial creditors and trustees in litigation. The office is prime space in downtown Asheville, near the Grove Arcade and the federal courthouse. Duties include typical litigation paralegal and office administration functions, plus investigating the financial affairs of persons and entities in bankruptcy and coordinating sales with brokers and auctioneers. Hours are flexible and the office environment is casual, quiet, and dog friendly. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, discretion, a desire to take ownership of their caseload, some experience with civil litigation or bankruptcy, and proficiency with Microsoft Word. Preferred qualifications: licensed notary; experience with both state and federal electronic filing systems; experience in real estate title research and/or bookkeeping / accounting; an interest in private investigation. Time demand is 30-40 flexible hours per week. Time can be mixed between office and remote. Compensation can be hourly or salaried, depending on availability and experience.
