Position: Paralegal/Law Clerk

Requirements Summary:
Seeking eligible candidate(s) for a Full-Time Sr. Paralegal position on a federal government contract. This position requires extensive cite-checking experience, correcting erroneous or incomplete citations, references, assertions, and quotations in briefs and other case documents. Ensuring that briefs and other case documents strictly conform with the Citation Manual and The Blue Book guidance is a key position requirement. In addition, ensuring adherence to the Rules of the Supreme Court of the United States regarding timelines for filing briefs and other case documents is also a primary position responsibility.
Key Position Requirement:
§ US citizen and must be clear-able. Position requires Public Trust background check and security clearance.
§ Must be able to work on-site in Washington, DC.
§ Must have cite-checking experience at a law firm, Law School, or a legal entity within a Government Agency
§ Must have full proficiency in using The Blue Book and the Citation Manual
§ Must have extensive experience performing legal research using LexisNexis and Westlaw or similar search tools.
§ Provide recent resume, current references, most recent salary information, and current contact information (phone and valid email address)
Position Requirement Details:
1. Reviewing legal documents and Federal Regulations to ensure accuracy of information. Extensive knowledge and experience in Cite-Checking is a MUST using The Blue Book and the Citation Manual.
2. Ensuring proper legal citations. Utilizes automated legal databases to conduct extensive legal research to analyze and verify accuracy of citations and corrects erroneous or incomplete citations. This research is accomplished using federal and state reporter systems, Shepard’s Citators, computer research terminals (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis)
3. Search and review legal references, case files and other sources for information required by attorneys.
4. Independently researching legal documents for accuracy and examining, reviewing, and processing a variety of complex legal documents.
5. Must be familiar with Brief Shepardizing
7. Monitor drafting, revision, and finalization of intricate Tables of Authorities to accompany briefs and other case documents.
8. Advise attorneys and other officials on the accuracy and relevancy of citations, quotations, paraphrasing, parenthetical information, and other references.
9. Proficient and expert in using office productivity tools including Microsoft Word with official Word templates, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
10. Must have extensive experience in performing case-related legal research.
11. Expertise in conducting complex legal research utilizing tools like LexisNexis and Westlaw.
12. Conduct legal research to determine whether cases cited have been affirmed, reversed, or questioned and update legal authorities accordingly.
13. Conduct complex legal research and analysis on precedents, periodicals, technical data, and other information bearing on relevant and specific legal issues and analyzes that information in determining additions and/or omissions in the Government’s brief.
14. Locate, retrieving, and evaluating official, primary legal sources that are hard-to-find, obscure, problematic, antiquated, related to several areas of law including foreign, comparative, international, common, and civil law.
15. Ensure adherence to the Rules of the Supreme Court of the United States regarding timelines for filing briefs and other case documents.
16. Ability to study Supreme Court precedent to determine appropriate sources for research and to form recommendations.
17. Ensure adherence to legal ethics in conducting work to include protecting confidential or classified material in accordance with the department, information security and national security rules
