Park Custodian - SUGAR BOTTOM CORALVILLE LAKE PROJECT

AREA: Sugar Bottom: Sugar Bottom Campground, Sugar Bottom Day Use Area, Cedar Valley Trail, Mehaffey Boat Ramp.

Job Summary
Join our team as a Park Custodian at the beautiful Sugar Bottom Coralville Lake Project! In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of park facilities, ensuring visitors enjoy a pristine and welcoming environment. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor spaces while providing excellent service to park visitors. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to community recreation and environmental stewardship through hands-on custodial work.

Responsibilities

  • PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE: 20 April – 30 September 2026; 7 Days Per Week;
  • Total Days Worked: 158
  • Maximum of 6 hours of work per day (plus 2 for evening spot check)
  • Custodian shall begin performing Initial Cleaning Services on 21 April and complete them on 24 April.

PRIMARY CLEANING SERVICES: Primary cleaning services and the frequency they are to be performed are listed for each type of facility cleaned and service performed. Custodian shall daily begin performing Primary Cleaning Services no later than 6AM and complete them by 12 NOON.

Exception: Primary cleaning services for all buildings and shelters shall be completed by 10AM.

Sugar Bottom Day Use Vault Restroom will be cleaned and locked on 01 May. Custodian shall begin performing Primary Cleaning Services on 01 May. Custodian shall ensure the Sugar Bottom Day Use Gate is opened at 6AM daily.

EVENING SPOT CHECK SERVICES: Spot checks shall be performed on all buildings and

shelters between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Spot checks shall consist of inspecting buildings and shelters for malfunctions and correcting or reporting them as needed; restocking toilet paper, flushing soiled toilets and urinals, removing excess water and debris from floor that may be a safety hazard, emptying full trash cans and cleaning any unsanitary conditions.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in cleaning, janitorial work, or custodial services preferred
  • Knowledge of floor care techniques such as buffing, waxing, and carpet cleaning
  • Experience with commercial or industrial cleaning equipment and supplies is highly desirable
  • Basic facilities maintenance skills including minor repairs and painting are a plus
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive attitude toward cleanliness and safety
  • Ability to work independently in outdoor and indoor environments under varying weather conditions
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with team members and report issues effectively

Pay: Up to $23.50 per hour
