The Town of Hillsborough Parks and Recreation Department provide maintenance services to the various parks. Hillsborough P&R is dedicated to the improvement of the fields, parks, and facilities that the Town of Hillsborough has to offer.

Position: Parks Maintenance Laborer

Employment Contingent Upon Passing a Background Check

The Parks Maintenance Laborer is responsible for the care of the park.

Typical hours and days are Monday through Friday 7am-3pm totaling 40hrs/week when weather allows. Flexibility in schedule is required as the position depends on the weather for work. Position operates from April 1st-November 30th. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.

1. Mows, fertilizes, waters, and performs various landscaping related tasks.

2. Maintains plantings, shrubs and trees including pruning, mulching, trimming, and removal of small shrubs and trees.

3. Operates and performs preventive/routine maintenance on hand tools and other machinery which may include, but not be limited to, mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, weed whackers.

4. Paints buildings, fences, equipment, etc; performs routine and minor repairs to facilities and equipment.

5. Familiar with and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work.

6. Occasionally operates light vehicular equipment (if properly licensed).

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Considerations and Requirements:

· Work assignments or a repetitive nature, once learned, can be executed under general supervision.

· Some independent judgment is exercised in the operation of equipment.

· Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

· Ability to perform heavy strenuous manual labor for extended periods and under varying and adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift 50lbs.

· Performs various labor tasks of an unskilled or semi-skilled nature that are essential to the operations of the highway and utility departments when assigned.

· Work is reviewed to assure that desired results are obtained, and the appropriate care and safety is exercised in equipment operations.

· Maintain familiarity with town’s safety policy and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work.

· Maintain good working relationships with all town departments.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Must have a clean driving record. Pay is determined based on level of education and experience. $18-20/hr.
