Job Overview
The Park Laborer maintains the park system, sport fields, recreational water usage, building maintenance, event setups, seasonal cleanup (snow or leaf removal), equipment, and assists the public.
Responsibilities
Miscellaneous Projects and Duties (79%):
- Mows and trims the entire Park System and City Facilities
- Fertilizes the compost tea program three times per year
- Annual maintenance of the Park System, including playsets and mulch
- Maintains Police Station, City Hall, Fire Station, and Parks Office through cleaning, maintenance projects, HVAC, electrical and plumbing maintenance, exterior maintenance, etc.
- Maintains park restrooms through cleaning, maintenance projects, electrical and plumbing maintenance and exterior maintenance
- Assists in minor maintenance to all the small engines, lawn mowers, utv, pick-up trucks, etc.
- Assists in set-up and clean-up each year at the Carnival, Car Show, Fireworks, Fall Festival, Winter Festival, etc.
- Assists in garbage and recycling removal at our facilities and the entire park system
- Assists in ordering materials and products at local businesses when needed in our division
- Sets-up for Youth Gymnastics, Youth Soccer programs and also do any maintenance needed for such equipment
- Assists in mulching and collecting leaves in the entire park system and at our facilities
- Assists in annual pruning and brush removal
- Maintain water line systems in the Park System and Graceland Cemetery
- Maintain irrigation system at W.A.Olen Athletic Field
- Cuts and paints lines at ball diamonds and soccer fields, aeration of soil at the sports fields
- Maintains the Park Shelters which includes cleaning and maintenance (structural, electrical and plumbing) 2 Park Laborer
- Maintains fitness and nature trains which includes maintenance to the trails, dragging, rolling and installation of new trails
- Sets-up at Farmer’s Market and paints stalls and stall numbers
- Assists in tree planting, tree removal, weed control, backfilling topsoil, seeding and mulching
- Maintains dog park
- Assists with set-up and take down of seasonal decorations
- Cleans, maintains and moves picnic tables & benches throughout the park system and for events
- Assists in maintaining boat landings, docks and buoys
- Assists in minor maintenance at our skate park
- Attends staff meetings and training workshops or seminars
- Maintains Veteran’s Memorial site including facility maintenance to the monuments, statue, irrigation system, electrical, etc.
- Plants, waters and installs new flower beds
Community Center Maintenance (10%):
- Maintains the Community Center through cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, maintenance projects, HVAC, electrical and plumbing and a variety of exterior maintenance. Set up for monthly meetings.
Ball Diamond Maintenance (6%):
- Maintains infield, dugouts, bleachers, out buildings and any miscellaneous projects within a ball diamond that come up during the year
Snow Removal (5%):
- Assists in snow removal at City Facilities, parking lots and sidewalks
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No experience required Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
- Commercial Driver’s License (may obtain after hire)
- First Aid, CPR, AED, Blood Bourne Pathogens training (may obtain after hire)
- Fall protection training (may obtain after hire)
- Fire Extinguisher Safety, MSDS training (may obtain after hire)
Knowledge
- Basic Maintenance and Repair: Understanding of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, and landscaping.
- Safety Procedures: Knowledge of safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries. 3 Park Laborer
- Horticultural Practices: Familiarity with plant care, including pruning, planting, and pest control.

Pay: $20.82 - $22.04 per hour
