Parks Laborer Part-Time

POSITION PURPOSE:

The City of Birmingham (EOE) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of part-time Parks Laborer to help our parks and golf courses look fantastic. You'll enjoy a flexible position working up to 29 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend hours. Park Laborers are an essential part of the team contributing to the beauty and upkeep of City parks. Under the guidance of a supervisor, the Parks Laborer performs hands-on work in landscaping and horticulture to enhance the natural splendor of our community spaces. This position is an ideal stepping stone for individuals eager to explore a career in public services or landscaping.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works as a team to carry out landscaping and horticulture tasks in City parks.
• Utilize landscaping and gardening tools with confidence and skill.
• Be a steward of the environment by enhancing the beauty and appeal of public spaces.
• Additional related responsibilities as assigned.

NECESSARY SKILLS:

• Time management
• Attention to detail

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous landscaping or horticulture experience is a plus, but a passion for greenery and a willingness to learn are equally valued

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions
• Must be able to operate heavy machinery
