Parks Maintenance Worker

SUMMARY:

The Parks Maintenance Worker will be working closely with the Parks Crew Leader. They are under the direct supervision of the Parks & Municipal Superintendent and/or Public Works Director. Responsible for maintaining city parks, grounds, including mowing, weed-eating, tree-trimming, irrigation, and landscaping. This position performs a variety of other duties as assigned by the Parks Superintendent and/or Public Works Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare and maintain athletic fields and sport courts to include dragging and lining fields, setting bases, mowing, weed eating, irrigation repair, watering, cleaning, pest and weed control, fertilization, and trash removal.
  • Performs minor repairs of park buildings.
  • Ensures City facilities are aesthetically pleasing to the public including maintenance and cleaning of park restrooms.
  • Maintains and prepares sports fields.
  • Maintains the safety and cleanliness of all park playgrounds.
  • Maintains all park water features and corresponding structures such as docks and aeration pumps.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all vehicles and equipment, as well as minor repairs on all equipment.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, theft, loss, and broken/damaged equipment/property to the Parks Superintendent
  • Document completed work orders.
  • Responds to emergency operations and on-call situations.
  • Work and perform support for special events outside of normal work hours.
  • Assist other crews and departments when needed including tasks outside normal responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
  • Skilled in proper maintenance and operation of essential equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Communicate effectively both written and orally.
  • Understand, interpret, and conduct oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or push less than or equal to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to endure varying weather conditions provided the time of year.
  • Ability to sit, bend, twist, crouch, walk and crawl on a frequent daily basis.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and legally.
  • Respond timely and effectively to any emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Pay: $18.09 - $27.13 per hour
