POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Under general direction of the Parks Superintendent, this position is responsible for performing a wide range of entry-level, semi-skilled duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of city parks, trails, cemetery, and public grounds. The primary emphasis of this position is trail maintenance, with additional responsibilities assisting in general parks maintenance activities as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS

Performs maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the City’s trail system, including paved and unpaved trails, trailheads, and related amenities.

Conducts trail surface maintenance including grading, edging, vegetation control, erosion control, and debris removal to ensure trails are safe and accessible.

Assists with minor trail construction projects and installation and maintenance of trail signage, fencing, bollards, and barriers.

Performs general parks maintenance functions including mowing, trimming, pruning, weed control, litter removal, painting, and maintenance of park facilities, playgrounds, shelters, and restrooms.

Operates light to medium-duty equipment and tools used in parks and trail maintenance, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, utility vehicles, tractors, and hand tools.

Assists with irrigation system operation, maintenance, and minor repairs.

Assists with snow and ice control operations on trails, sidewalks, parking lots, and park facilities, including operation of snow removal equipment.

Checks, services, and performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment; reports mechanical issues for repair.

Transports tools, materials, and supplies required to complete assigned work.

Interacts professionally with the public and coworkers, including in situations that may be stressful or confrontational.

Performs physically demanding work including walking on uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, and climbing; regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.

Manages multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and works effectively under varying conditions and deadlines.

Must work the days and hours necessary to perform responsibilities and be available for after-hours, on-call, and emergency response as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Graduation from high school or equivalent and one (1) year of related experience in parks, trails, landscaping, construction, maintenance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Ability to perform heavy manual labor in varying weather conditions.

Ability to obtain a Utah Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License within six (6) months of hire.

Ability to analyze maintenance and repair issues, evaluate options, and respond appropriately.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a valid Utah Driver’s License and ability to maintain a safe driving record in accordance with City policy.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Utah Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one (1) year of hire.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and a wide variety of work assignments.

Skill in interpersonal relations to work effectively with the public and other City employees.
