Under limited supervision, operates a variety of equipment used in the tree trimming industry such as but no limited to aerial lifts, lighting loaders, chainsaws, etc. The incumbent is responsible for the safe operation and set up of the work zone; and performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Which are not in any hierarchical order)
1. Utilizes a variety of equipment such as aerial trucks, lighting loaders, water trucks, stump grinders, tractors, large tractor mowers, backhoe, bobcat, and excavator used to maintain City owned property.
2. Maintain City trees for public safety by performing tree pruning and tree removal functions; remove dead and damaged limbs and trees; plant, water, fertilize, and care for City trees.
3. Use climbing saddle, rope and harness to access and move safely in trees.
4. Operate and maintain tree-trimming equipment including trucks, aerial lift truck, chain saws, pole pruner, root pruner, stump grinder, and brush chipper.
5. Perform traffic control to ensure safety of cars, pedestrians, and tree crew in traffic areas.
6. Removes, hauls and dispose of trash, sod, dirt, stumps; replaces sod as necessary to restore job site.
7. Plants new trees or removes dead, dying, diseased, non-native trees, and vegetation, as required.
8. Mows grass with lawn mower, edges roadways, sidewalks, curbs, around trees and headstones, pulls and removes weeds from flower beds, trims trees, hedges at various heights, and removes exotic trees and vegetation from natural areas.
9. Picks up and removes tree limbs, branches and palm fronds, clears and cleans streets, alleys and job sites of debris, pull vines off fences; loads and hauls trash, sand, and mulch. Picks up trash, debris and tree limbs from medians, parks and public recreational areas.
10. Plants flowers, applies fertilizer, prunes plants and trees, plants or removes trees, lays sod and performs other grounds maintenance duties.
11. Operates various automotive vehicles and light to heavy equipment; may perform maintenance and repairs as required.
12. Performs preventative maintenance and safety checks on trucks and other equipment used in the care and maintenance of plants, trees, and grassy areas.
13. Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices; supports and actively participates in the City’s safety programs.
14. Performs all duties assigned of Parks Maintenance Worker I and II.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Salary $19.98 Hourly (Pay Grade 43)

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below) and three (3) years grounds maintenance experience to include but not limited to playgrounds, heavy equipment/truck operation, and/or athletics fields, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
A current and valid Florida Commercial Driver’s license Class B is required.
Special Driving Requirements
Education Requirements: To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by:
a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or
c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above.
International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.
