Days Worked: Four days in a row - may include weekends, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM

The City of Bloomfield is seeking a dependable and hardworking Parks Worker I to assist in the construction, maintenance, and upkeep of City parks, grounds, buildings, and recreational facilities. This position works under the general supervision of the Parks Director and helps ensure parks and recreation areas are safe, clean, and well‑maintained for public use.

Perform general park and facility maintenance, including construction, repair, and upkeep of buildings, bowery structures, lighting, plumbing, and storage facilities

Assist with carpentry, painting, roofing, concrete, masonry, plumbing, and basic electrical work

Install, test, maintain, and repair irrigation and sprinkler systems

Apply herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and insecticides in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines

Operate and maintain heavy and light equipment such as backhoes, front‑end loaders, dump trucks, tractors, mowers, trenchers, welders, chainsaws, and hand tools

Perform landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, fertilizing, and aerating

Prepare and maintain sports fields and recreational facilities (lining, chalking, grooming, court and playground inspections)

Assist with seasonal operations such as snow removal and special events

Provide guidance and training to temporary, seasonal, or part‑time workers on a project basis

Follow all safety policies and procedures and perform related duties as assigned
Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED

Two (2) years of experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, construction, or related work

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

Working knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment and vehicles

Knowledge of irrigation systems, turf maintenance, landscaping, and pesticide application

Basic skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, welding, and equipment repair

Ability to identify common weeds, pests, and turf diseases

Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public

Valid driver's license required

CDL Class B preferred but not required

Ability to safely operate equipment and tools
This position involves frequent physical activity including walking, standing, bending, lifting, and reaching. Work is performed outdoors year‑round and includes exposure to weather extremes, chemicals, and machinery. Some lifting of heavy materials is required.
