Part-Time Animation Teacher

Job Summary:

Laity Institute of the Arts, a non-profit arts organization in Palmdale, CA, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Part-Time Animation Teacher to lead our comprehensive animation program. You will guide students (grade 1 and up) through the entire animation pipeline, from foundational drawing and character design to advanced 2D and 3D animation techniques using industry-standard software. We are looking for a passionate educator who can build a strong foundational understanding of animation principles before advancing students to more complex skills like storyboarding, digital environment design, and 3D character animation. Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and teach a sequential curriculum covering 2D and 3D animation.
• Instruct students in core areas, including:
• Fundamentals of Drawing & Character Design
• Storyboarding and Environment Design
• 2D Character Animation
• Digital Art and Computer-Aided Animation
• Video Editing and Compositing
• Introduction to 3D Modeling and Animation
• Manage a hands-on, project-based classroom that is both creative and structured.
• Provide constructive, one-on-one feedback to help students develop their technical skills and artistic voice.

• Collaborate with other faculty on student showcases and cross-disciplinary projects.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Degree or Equivalent Experience: An AA, BA, BFA, or MFA in Animation, Digital Arts, or a related field, OR a minimum of five (5) years of professional animation or teaching experience.chronicle.com
• Expertise in Animation Pipeline: Demonstrable knowledge of the full animation workflow, from pre-production (storyboarding, character design) to production (2D/3D animation) and post-production (editing, compositing)
• Software Proficiency: Strong experience with industry-standard 2D animation software (e.g., Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe Animate) and familiarity with 3D software (e.g., Maya, Blender)
• Strong Portfolio: A compelling portfolio of personal or student work showcasing a high level of skill in animation and visual storytelling.yellowbrick.co
• Teaching Ability: A successful track record of teaching or mentoring, especially with children or young adults, is highly preferred.
• Availability: Able to work three or more weekdays.
• Location: Must be able to reliably commute to our locations.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
