Part-time Assistant Teacher

About Kiddie House

Kiddie House Daycare is a trusted, family-run early childhood program serving children ages 1–4 in New Hyde Park, NY. We create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where every child is known by name and celebrated as an individual. Our curriculum blends Montessori principles, play-based learning, and structured weekly themes to give children the freedom to explore while building the foundational skills they'll carry into school and beyond.

We partner closely with families, sharing daily observations and updates so parents feel connected to their child's growth. Our team is small, collaborative, and deeply invested in one another. And we're growing. In 2027, Kiddie House will expand into a larger commercial facility, opening the door for staff to grow alongside us in leadership and scope.

Role Description:

We're looking for a caring, motivated Assistant Teacher to join our toddler and preschool classrooms. This isn't a passive aide role as you will work alongside the lead teacher, step up to lead structured activities, and build real classroom ownership from day one. This would include noticing when a child is struggling, thriving, or needs something different, and translating those observations into warm, responsive care. You'll also be a direct bridge to families, such as sharing daily highlights, developmental milestones, and anything parents should know. The right hire today has a clear path to a Lead Teacher role as we grow. It is an opportunity to build a long-term career in early childhood education with a program that's serious about professional development and staff investment.

What you’ll do:

● Help plan and lead monthly curriculum activities for children ages 1–4

● Create a safe, nurturing space that encourages curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving

● Observe children throughout the day, noting developmental progress and any concerns

● Communicate daily with parents about their child's mood, milestones, and behavior

● Monitor classroom activities and ensure every child's health and safety at all times

● Assist with sourcing and organizing classroom materials aligned to weekly themes

● Maintain reliable attendance and arrive consistently on time

● Comply with all New York State childcare regulations and safety protocols

Qualifications:

● 3rd- or 4th-year college student or recent graduate in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field

● At least 2 years of experience working with children ages 1-4 (center, family daycare, tutoring, camp, babysitting — all count)

● Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, or actively working toward one

● A natural observer (you notice what's happening in a room and respond thoughtfully)

● A warm, confident communicator with both children and adults

● Genuine passion for early childhood development and working with toddlers

● Reliable, punctual, and committed to a consistent Monday–Friday schedule

● Comfortable with a blended curriculum: Montessori methods, play-based learning, and structured projects

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule

Work Location: In person
