Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, customer-focused, Bilingual Cashier, fluent in English and Spanish to join our team at our busy scrap yard. The ideal candidate will be responsible for handling cash and transactions, interacting with customers and vendors, providing excellent service, and maintaining accurate financial records, all while navigating a fast-paced and sometimes rugged environment.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and vendors professionally and courteously.
• Process transactions for the purchase of scrap materials using scale tickets.
• Accurately handle cash, checks, and balance drawer at beginning and end of shift.
• Verify identification and ensure compliance with scrap metal purchasing laws.
• Translate for non-English speaking customers and team members.
• Enter data into point-of-sale (POS) systems and maintain transaction records.
• Assist with preparing daily reports.
• Answer phone calls and direct inquiries as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cashier area and customer lobby.
• Work closely with scale operators, yard staff, and management to ensure smooth operations.
• Follow all company safety procedures and protocols.
• Assist with filing, recordkeeping, Invoicing, and basic administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 1+ year experience in a cashier or customer service role (scrap/recycling yard preferred).
• Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (verbal and written) required.
• Strong math and data entry skills.
• Able to handle high-volume cash transactions accurately and responsibility.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
• Comfortable working in an industrial environment.
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, POS systems - Scrap Dragon experience a plus).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Comfortable in a noisy, dusty, loud setting.
• Occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs.

Additional Requirements

• Must pass pre-employment background screening, drug test, physical, & be fingerprinted
• Must adhere to all company safety policies and procedures
• Reliable attendance is essential
