Part-Time Circulation Clerk
20 hours / week. 1-2 evenings per week. 1-2 Saturdays per month.
Join us at a vibrant suburban library! Monroeville Public Library serves a diverse population, welcoming community members of all ages and from all walks of life. Primary library services are to provide materials for check-out (books, DVDs, e-resources, tools, wi-fi hotspots, and more), provide computers and internet access, offer a wide variety of materials for all ages and interests, and provide one-on-one technology assistance (computer, printing, faxing, troubleshooting, and more).
We are looking for a reliable, flexible, service-focused part-time circulation clerk. This position is public service desk-focused. Most, if not all, hours will be spent at the public service desk.
PURPOSE:
Provides the highest quality customer service to all library patrons and visitors delivered with kindness, attention, and respect. Ensures that library materials are properly accounted for through the check-in/check-out process and by putting materials in their correct places. When possible, guides patrons to use technology to increase patron convenience and the effectiveness of library resources. Shows appreciation towards patrons, enjoys going the extra mile, and embraces an openness to continuous development of customer service skills. Cross-trained on children’s department service desk and main service desk.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Interacts regularly with patrons, visitors, and other library staff members primarily to provide and/or receive information. Answer patron questions.
· Checks materials in and out of the library.
· Shelves materials in their proper location.
· Pulls materials placed on hold by patrons or other libraries. Checks in on-hold materials received from other libraries.
· Follows opening and closing desk procedures.
· Answers the phone and handles or directs the call. Checks phone messages and handles the message or routes it to the correct staff member.
· May handle sensitive patron issues including compliance with established library practices, complaints, and/or disruptions. Escalates challenging issues to supervisor as appropriate.
· Attendance required at four large community events throughout the year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance
· Ability to effectively communicate with patrons both in-person and by phone
· Ability to interact with a diverse population in a courteous manner, employing tact and diplomacy when dealing with challenging customer situations
· Attention to detail necessary to ensure that materials are properly tracked and shelved
· Ability to work independently and with initiative
· Ability to effectively prioritize tasks
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to stand for extended periods of time
· Ability to frequently bend, twist, and stoop
· Ability to lift at least 25 pounds necessary to move boxes of materials
· Visual acuity necessary to read from a computer screen and accurately track materials
· Manual dexterity necessary to handle books, papers, files and type on a keyboard
· Hearing necessary to interact with staff, patrons and other shareholders
Pay: $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 per week
