The Duluth Transit Authority is hiring a part time Dispatcher/Scheduler for our paratransit department-STRIDE (Special Transit RIDE). The DTA is an award-winning transit agency that provides safe, convenient, and affordable public transit service (fixed route and paratransit) within the Twin Ports of Duluth, MN and Superior, WI. We transport just under 3 million passengers annually by way of our 75+ bus fleet and we employ approximately 180 team members. STRIDE is dial-a-ride transportation service for qualified individuals with disabilities in the Twin Ports. It operates in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

This is an office/administrative position. You will be on the phone for the vast majority of your shift, as well as be at the computer scheduling rides. The Dispatcher is responsible for taking ride requests, building a route schedule, and assuring that all scheduled trips are assigned to a driver, then completed. The Dispatcher works to solve problems during the workday and completes daily reports and other clerical duties. The phone call volume is high. This is a part time position, with varying shifts all 7 days of the week. The shifts are 8 hours long- either 7:30-4:00 or 8:00-4:30 with a half hour lunch break. Insurance benefits are not offered with this position.

As a dispatcher, you are in a safety-sensitive position as determined by the Federal Transit Administration. This requires you to pass a pre-employment drug test and participate in random drug and alcohol testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

a) Answers phone calls and takes ride request

b) Dispatches all drivers on assigned work schedules, creates schedule

c) Provides information to all drivers regarding bus operations.

d) Monitors and supervises the vehicle fleet by use of a computerized dispatch radio system to communicate with vehicle operators for any conditions which would impact operations. Responds to questions and operational problems from drivers.

e) Reviews Dispatch Daily Report of Operations. Schedules work assignments of all drivers.

f) Works with the Maintenance Department Staff to insure proper bus assignments and solve on street bus maintenance problems.

g) Maintains daily-computerized records of bus schedule and changes by inputting data on an ongoing basis into the dispatch computer. Prints necessary reports as needed or requested.

h) Performs related clerical functions of data collection, absenteeism, vacations, completion of various forms, special requests, data entry on computer, etc.

i) Performs related duties as may be required.

This is not a work-from-home position. Regular, dependable attendance is necessary for the performance of the job duties. The Duluth Transit Authority reserves the right to assign additional or different duties to employees within this job classification consistent with the changing needs of the Duluth Transit Authority.

QUALIFICATIONS:

a) High school graduate

b) Must have excellent verbal communication skills and decision-making capacity.

c) Must have familiarity with computers and be comfortable being on the phone for the majority of the time.

d) Previous customer service experience is required.
