A small, volunteer-led, multi-generational liberal congregation in Richmond, TX is searching for a part-time Family Programs Coordinator/Church Administrator. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, self-organized, creative program administrator to grow with us! The applicant must enjoy children and like working with families. This part-time, hybrid position is suitable for a teacher, college student or someone with classroom management experience. The church administration portion of the job involves working with volunteers on the day-to-day operations of our church.

Title: Programs and Administrative Coordinator (UUA Specialist Classification)

Reports to: Vice President of the Board

FLSA Status:

Hours and schedule:

  • 100 hrs / month. 20-25 hr per week. 4 core hours on-site most Sundays.
  • Two evenings per month (virtual), plus one Saturday evening on-site per month.
  • The remaining hours are flexible; some work can be done remotely.

Compensation: $25-30/hr., commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits negotiable. (UUA Geo Index 4, Church size A)

Other Information:

· Our 5-acre campus is located in rural Richmond, Texas, just west of HWY 99 in Fort Bend County

· There will be a 6-month probationary term for the position, with potential for a raise after this term.

· Upstairs classrooms are not accessible by wheelchair.

· Support for professional development will be offered.

Purpose of the position: Partner with the Family Programs, Finance, and Membership teams to plan, administer, and execute congregational life programming that furthers the mission and development of the Thoreau congregation.

Essential Functions

Religious Exploration (RE) Leadership – Develop and lead the Sunday RE program.

  • Coordinate curricula, teacher preparation, classroom set-up, and Sunday RE operations for children pre-school to high school age.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and lead RE volunteers; collaborate with Family Programs team.
  • Act as the lead teacher in the elementary classroom.
  • Manage RE budget and expenditures; maintain/purchase RE supplies and equipment.

Family Programs Ministry - Provide a warm, welcoming, supportive presence to help families connect with congregational programs.

  • Prepare and deliver regular intergenerational worship content.
  • Plan family enrichment, service, and social events.
  • Liaise with childcare providers.
  • Champion Safer Congregation practices and ensure a safe multi-generational environment.

Membership and Financial Administration – Manage newcomer, member, and pledge records.

  • Maintain membership roster; track pledges and payments; provide routine bookkeeping and payroll support.
  • Help visitors and newcomers connect with congregational programs; prepare nametags and information packets; organize newcomer information sessions and membership orientation.
  • Order office supplies; maintain volunteer office and equipment.

Program Administration and Communications – Support Board and Program Council; manage congregational communications.

  • Maintain events calendar, volunteer schedule, and electronic distribution lists.
  • Keep congregational website current; publicize weekly and special events.
  • Track program participation; prepare regular reports for Program Council.
  • Collaborate with volunteers to prepare weekly Order of Service.
  • Collaborate with volunteers to prepare and distribute weekly e-blast.

Qualifications may be met through a combination of lived experience, professional, volunteer, and/or academic experience, or through a commitment to complete training during the initial term of employment:

Required Skills / Knowledge:

· Attention to detail and organizational skills – scheduling, information management, program planning, facility coordination, ability to maintain confidential information.

· Knowledge of child development, special needs, and/or family systems.

· Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), Zoom, Google Docs, MemInfo, and basic website management (SquareSpace).

· Strong relationship and communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrate or acquire knowledge necessary to support a safer environment for our diverse, multi-generational congregation.

· Comfortable affirming and promoting the principles of Unitarian Universalism and the values and mission of the Thoreau Congregation; willingness to participate in the practice of community covenant; a personal spiritual practice and/or knowledge and appreciation of a wide variety of religious traditions and practices.

Required Experience:

· Experience in administration at a non-profit organization.

· Direct experience teaching and guiding children, youth and/or families.

· Experience coordinating staff and/or volunteers.

· Exposure to fund-raising, stewardship, development and/or financial management.

· Background in social justice, multiculturalism, anti-oppression, anti-racism, and/or community outreach.

· Demonstrated flexibility and creativity to adapt programs for different learning styles, ways of engagement, and as stakeholder needs evolve.

Required Education:

· College-level course work, continuing education, and/or credential in education, child and family development, social work, religious studies, business administration, or related subjects.

· Commitment to on-going professional development.

· First Aid / CPR certification required within 6 weeks of start date.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
