Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The Center for Student Health & Counseling (SHAC) is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) healthcare facility that offers medical, counseling, dental, and health promotion and education services to eligible students of Portland State University. SHAC Health Services enhances the overall health, safety, and wellbeing of Portland State University Students by providing same-day, primary, and preventative health care. Health Services provides health education, screenings, immunizations, laboratory & x-ray, and specialized care.


Position Summary
SHAC is seeking a part-time provider (2 days a week -16 hours) who is an MD/DO or NP/PA.

Primary responsibilities include providing direct medical care to patients. In addition, there are minimal, shared, after-hours duties to cover the on-call phone and other urgent provider tasks. These duties are paid apart from the provider compensation.
We are seeking a provider who is experienced with trauma-informed care and working with patients of diverse cultural backgrounds. Preferred skills include:
  • Acute & Chronic Illnesses
  • IUD & Nexplanon insertion and removal
  • Wound Repair
  • Skin Biopsies
  • Draining I & D Abscesses
  • Experience with Eating Disorders
  • Experience with Gender Affirming Care & Treatment
  • Treatment/Counseling for STI’s
  • Experience with Abortion Care
  • Collaborating & Consulting with RN’s Following Nursing Standing Protocols.
  • Experience with Reading X-rays
  • Experience with Travel Health
  • Experience with Infectious Diseases
  • Experience with Sports Injuries
  • Electronic Medical Record Experience
  • Quality Assurance Skills

Minimum Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. from an approved accredited school of medicine who has completed residency.
  • Active, unencumbered license (corresponding to your field) to practice medicine.
  • Active Board Certification in: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics (experience with evaluating and treating young adults over the age of 18), Emergency Medicine (experience with evaluating and treating young adults over the age of 18).
  • Current DEA License.
  • NP’s with active Family or Adult board certification and 3 years post-graduate experience in primary care.
  • PA’s with active board certification and 3 years post-graduate experience in primary care.
  • Current BLS.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Active, unencumbered licenses (corresponding to your field) to practice medicine for applicants outside of Oregon will be considered.
  • Multilingual or Bilingual.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care.
  • Experience working with patients of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Medical Knowledge base that is current and continually updated.
  • Infection Control experience.
  • Quality Improvement/Assurance experience.
  • College Health experience.
  • Gender Affirming Care experience, procedure experience such as IUD/Nexplanon insertions, lacerations, abscess drainage, medication abortions, etc.
  • Reading x-rays.
  • Performing CLIA waived tests: UA’s, rapid strep tests, UHCG, etc.

Work Days/Hours
16-20 hours/week to be scheduled between Monday and Friday, 9-5:30

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The hourly rate for this position is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Approximate range $80-$105 per hour.
