Part time immigration attorney

Part-Time Immigration Attorney (Remote / Flexible)
Burt & Ngo, P.C.

Burt & Ngo, P.C. is seeking a sharp, motivated part-time, independent contractor, attorney to assist with our growing immigration litigation and removal defense practice. We represent individuals in detention, federal habeas proceedings, bond hearings, cancellation cases, asylum matters, and complex removal defense across multiple jurisdictions.

This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys litigation, writing, strategy, and meaningful client impact.

Responsibilities

  • Draft motions (bond redeterminations, motions to reopen, motions to reconsider, continuances)
  • Prepare cancellation (42A/42B), asylum, and withholding filings
  • Draft federal habeas petitions and related district court pleadings
  • Prepare declarations and supporting exhibit packets
  • Appear at bond hearings and master calendar hearings (usually remote)
  • Conduct legal research and write litigation memoranda
  • Review NTAs, criminal records, and immigration history for relief analysis
  • Communicate with detained clients and family members as needed

Qualifications

  • Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 2+ years immigration experience preferred (removal defense strongly preferred)
  • Strong legal writing and analytical skills
  • Comfortable handling federal court pleadings
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Spanish fluency is a plus but not required

Schedule & Compensation

  • 10–25 hours per week (flexible)
  • Remote position (court appearances usually remote but may need to travel once or twice a month if available)
  • Hourly pay, raises every 6 months, bonuses likely but not guaranteed
