About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Intake Specialist to join our clinical team. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for individuals seeking services—playing a critical part in assessing eligibility, coordinating care, and ensuring a welcoming and supportive experience.
This position is ideal for a clinician who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values person-centered care, and is passionate about supporting individuals with mental health and/or substance use needs.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct timely intake assessments (within 72 hours) in settings convenient for the individual (home, hospital, community, etc.)
- Determine service eligibility in accordance with Michigan Mental Health Code and Medicaid guidelines
- Provide crisis intervention and support as needed
- Develop preliminary person-centered treatment plans and crisis plans
- Educate individuals on services, recipient rights, complaint resolution, and health/safety procedures
- Initiate case management services and coordinate smooth transitions to ongoing care
- Participate in triage and ensure all required documentation is completed accurately and on time
- Provide alternative recommendations and due process information when services are denied
- Maintain compliant, thorough, and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in on-call rotation, team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training
What We’re Looking For
Education & Licensure:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field
- Active Michigan licensure (MSW, LLP, or LPC)
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year post-graduate clinical experience in mental health and/or developmental disabilities
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Experience with co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance use)
- Knowledge of diagnostic criteria and level-of-care tools (e.g., LOCUS, ASAM)
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing and engagement strategies
- Ability to assess stage of change and tailor interventions accordingly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort with electronic health records and basic Microsoft Office tools
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
Additional Requirements
- Valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record
- Reliable personal vehicle and proof of insurance for work-related travel
- Willingness to travel within the community and work flexible hours
