Part-Time Interior Designer

Sara Svehla Interior Design is seeking a professional, organized, and self-motivated Interior Designer to join our growing residential design firm in Kansas City, Missouri. This part-time role offers 20–30 hours per week, with the potential to grow into a full-time position for the right candidate.

Ideal candidates must be energetic, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with our Principle and Senior Designer to support all aspects of the design process, from concept development and sourcing to drawings, site visits, and vendor coordination. You should be able to work within existing systems while helping refine processes that support the continued growth of the firm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with all aspects of the residential design process from concept to completion
• Prepare design drawings, 3D renderings, and supporting documentation for client presentations
• Create detailed floor plans, 3D models, and visual presentations using SketchUp or Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Attend client and vendor meetings; take detailed notes and communicate action items clearly
• Coordinate with installers, contractors, and vendors; meet installers onsite at client homes as needed
• Order, organize, and track samples; update and maintain the sample library
• Run errands, including sample pick-ups/drop-offs and procurement-related tasks
• Receive, inspect, and check in merchandise; document and report any issues
• Conduct product and material research; source options based on design direction
• Communicate professionally and promptly with clients, vendors, and team members
• Maintain organized digital files and documentation
• Assist with general office tasks and support day-to-day operational needs
• Stay current with industry trends, materials, and best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or SketchUp; must submit examples of work in these platforms
• Strong understanding of basic design principles (scale, proportion, color, materials)
• Up-to-date, professional design portfolio
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Adobe Creative Suite
• Must currently reside in Kansas City, MO, or be willing to relocate

Preferred but not required:

• Previous interior design industry experience
• Knowledge of BuilderTrend, Microsoft Teams
• Experience coordinating with contractors, vendors, or trades

HOURS & COMPENSATION

• Part-time: 20–30 hours per week with full-time potential for the right candidate
• Availability Monday–Friday; light travel
• $20-$30/hour, depending on experience
• Potential for the position to expand to full-time
