Part-Time Janitor

The Martinsburg Public Library is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Part-Time Cleaner to help maintain the cleanliness and safety of our 24,000 sq. ft. facility. The position involves routine cleaning of public and staff areas, restrooms, and meeting spaces to ensure a welcoming environment for all patrons and staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Vacuum, sweep, mop, and polish floors and carpets.
• Dust furniture, ledges, shelves, and windowsills; clean glass and mirrors.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms; replenish soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
• Empty trash and recycling bins; replace liners and transport waste to collection areas.
• Clean meeting rooms and reset furniture after events.
• Wipe down computer workstations, tables, and high-touch surfaces.
• Spot clean walls, doors, and glass panels as needed.
• Keep plaza area clear of trash and debris.
• Report maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
• Properly store and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate signage when cleaning.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred (office, school, or public facility).
• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
• Good attention to detail and ability to prioritize cleaning tasks in a large facility.
• Physical stamina to stand, bend, and lift up to 30 lbs as needed.
• Reliable transportation to and from the library.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed.
• Professional and respectful conduct in a public environment.

Work Schedule & Compensation

This is a part-time position, averaging 15–20 hours per week. Work may occur outside normal library hours (early mornings, evenings, or weekends).

Rate of Pay: $14.00 – $16.00 per hour, depending on experience and assigned duties. Additional pay may be offered for weekend or evening shifts.

Additional Information

All cleaning supplies and equipment are provided. The position may require a background check. Training will be provided on proper cleaning procedures and safety protocols.
