Part-Time Job Coach

Goodwill of Central Iowa is looking for a part-time Job Coach to train, teach, or coach others by providing support and serving our community with our values of love, kindness, and respect.

Job Coaches work in the community to support the learning, training, and skill development process for GCI (Goodwill of Central Iowa) program participants at work. Job coaches work one on one with participants at their work site and/or offsite to help managers at community employers come up with solutions for participants to be successful in their business. This position will be point of contact for work-related support that participants need and creatively problem-solve to fit the needs of the participant and the employer.


What you'll do:
  • Provides direct employment support to participants at their work sites in the community and offsite.
  • Plans weekly employment coaching hours in collaboration with supervisor and program needs.
  • Utilizes program and service knowledge and parameters to initiate, suggest, and/or implement plans to motivate participants to achieve work goals.
  • Provides support and advisement to facilitate functional skills development and achievement through the implementation of appropriate and effective rehabilitation methods and strategies.
  • Assists participants in analyzing and resolving work-related problems while working to grow participants’ skills in problem solving at work.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with participants, supervisors, participants support teams, and team members in a variety of methods including verbal, written, phone, and electronic.
  • Utilizes Outlook in partnership with other planning tools to plan and organize weekly and monthly schedules in collaboration with supervisor and team members.
  • Creates and submits documentation within established deadlines for employment services provided in alignment with program and/or funder guidelines.
  • Performs data entry in support of services provided to participants into a database.
  • Performs work and communicates within confidentiality, HIPAA and other related policies and compliance guidelines.
  • Participates in training and development activities and meetings within the organization and/or in the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What you’ll need:
  • One or more of the following:
    • Either a Bachelor’s or associate degree from a college or university in a relevant field such as human services, psychology, sociology, or human resources.
    • OR High school diploma or equivalent and at least 6 months experience in a related field including education, direct service, human services, behavioral health, rehabilitation, certified coaching, etc.
    • OR 2-3 years’ experience in a related field including education, direct service, human services, behavioral health, rehabilitation, certified coaching, etc.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members and the public in a professional manner.
  • One year of relevant experience coaching or teaching others.
  • Ongoing continuing education of four hours yearly in Employment Services with 24 months from the date of hire to meet the educational requirements and professional Job Coach certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Must be able to perform basic math.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google docs.
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • A valid Iowa driver license, a good driving record, and ability to provide proof of personal vehicle insurance with a minimum of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident auto insurance liability coverage.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and dependent adult and child abuse background check.
