The Porter County Juvenile Detention Center is seeking reliable, strong-minded individuals who can operate in a fast-paced, structured environment while maintaining professionalism and accountability at all times.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Overseeing daily activities and behavior of juvenile residents in a secure setting
• Establishing structure, enforcing rules, and maintaining order within the facility
• Creating and monitoring individualized supervision strategies
• Identifying safety concerns and responding appropriately to evolving situations
• Supporting the emotional and physical well-being of residents
• Conducting intake and release processes, including searches for contraband
• Documenting incidents, behavior, and daily activity logs with accuracy
• Communicating key updates with team members during shift transitions
• Assisting with programming, including educational, recreational, and behavioral initiatives
• Performing home detention visits when assigned
• Transporting residents to appointments or court as needed
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment through regular inspections
• Participating in training, staff meetings, and ongoing development
• Responding to emergencies and assisting as situations arise

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years old
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Valid Indiana driver’s license with a safe driving record
• Ability to pass background checks, including criminal history, sex offender registry, and DCS clearance

Preferred but not required:

• College coursework (Criminal Justice, Psychology, etc.)
• Military background or prior experience working with youth

Skills & Abilities

• Understanding of adolescent behavior and development
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-demand environment
• Strong report writing and documentation skills
• Ability to safely apply restraint techniques when necessary
• Comfortable working with security systems, radios, and standard office equipment

Physical & Work Requirements

• Must be able to lift 50+ pounds
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and respond quickly in emergency situations
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and occasional extended shifts
• Availability for on-call situations as needed
