Part Time Lab/Oligo Technician

Immediate positions available at a Sorrento Valley biotech company for a Part-Time Hourly Lab/Oligo Technician (Must be bilingual - Chinese (Mandarin) and English necessary):

Responsibilities/Job description:

Responsible for synthesis, purification, and labeling of oligonucleotides, prepping raw material and processing, and calibration of synthesizers. May be assigned to one or more duties/areas of the Oligo Lab.

• Process/Synthesize Oligonucleotides
• Perform HPLC, PAGE, MASS SPEC
• Learn, Apply Protocols for Synthesis
• Maintenance/Calibration of Oligo Synthesizers
• Manage/prep all raw materials involved in the synthesis process
• Follow all SOPs
• Collaborate with team members on ongoing and new projects

Perform lab duties such as sorting samples, measuring concentrations, PCR/Nanopore Assembly, post-reaction purification, and other lab duties as needed

Assist with cleaning and maintaining lab equipment and lab

Assist with record-keeping

Various other duties as assigned/needed, possible courier work with opportunity to learn and assist in different departments (DNA Prep)

Preferred - Not Required:

1) Familiarity with lab environment in an academic or work setting;
2) Familiar with the use of pipettes, repeaters, multi-channels, fluorescent readers, nanophotometers;
3) Have SOME background knowledge with respect to bacterial transformation, plasmids, and Sanger/Next-Gen Oxford Nanopore sequencing

Requirements:

1) Bilingual - Chinese (Mandarin) and English
2) Science related major (Bachelor/Masters), preferably Molecular Bio or Bio/Bio-Chem - recent grads are welcome;
3)Quick learner;
4) Detail oriented and meticulous;
5) Has excellent communication, organization and teamwork skills;
6) Sense of urgency, can meet deadlines;
7) Proactive, needs little guidance once trained;
8) Proficient in Microsoft Office/Excel;
9) Willing to work overtime when the need arises

Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.; Can be flexible due to changes in workflow needs

Pay: $24.00 per hour
