Part-Time Library Aide

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the LibraryAide (Part-Time) will perform a variety of detailed clerical work in the library to include extensive reshelving of books and materials. The ideal candidate will deliver high quality library services to the community and will exemplify a positive attitude each day.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports and embraces the vision, core values and communication agreements of the Victoria Public Library. Exhibits excellent customer services skills in a courteous and effective manner that promotes a positive image of the library.
  • Ability to work well with team members to achieve common goals and objectives in a team setting.
  • Responsible for demonstrating a patron-centered attitude and a professional, team-oriented working relationship with staff, coworkers, and volunteers.
  • Assists, in high quality experiences, services and programs for patrons of the library as assigned.
  • Helps oversee the appropriate use of library facilities and monitors public areas of the library to help maintain a suitable user-friendly environment.
  • Assists in checking in of materials, preparing alphabetized carts, performing inventory searches, and shelving/shifting of library materials as assigned.
  • Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.
  • Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent
  • And all other job duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a standard office environment. Employee will stretch, bend, kneel, twist, climb, squat and stoop while performing duties. Employee will frequently lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 45 pounds. Routinely pushes/pulls book truck weighing up to 300 pounds.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Applicable local, State, Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • General office policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.
  • General library operations and services.
  • Knowledge of use of computers and basic office equipment.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, and flexibility.
  • Ability to be an organized team player and actions, reflecting quality, accountability, and integrity.
