The City of Bozeman is hiring a part-time Library Aide (15 hours/week) to assist the Public Services Department at the Bozeman Public Library. The Library Aide is one of the most active jobs in the library and plays a key role in creating a welcoming and inclusive library environment for the community. The person in this position regularly interacts with the public, including people of all ages and from all walks of life, providing customer service in-person and over the phone, shelving materials, and performing data entry. Successful candidates are community-minded, detail-oriented, tech-savvy, patient, and have a sense of humor and resilience.

Work Week: Typically, Monday (3:15pm - 8:15pm), Tuesday (10:00am - 3:00pm), and Saturday (12:15pm -5:15pm)

Provides assistance to patrons including locating various materials throughout the library, demonstrating the use of the automated card catalog and assisting patrons using self-checkout computers;

Performs check-in and check-out of library materials to patrons using computerized database, including registering patrons for library services, and assessing and collecting fees for lost or damaged books;

Sorts and shelves books, magazines, audio/video items, and other library materials in accordance with the Dewey Decimal System, including straightening and shifting books as needed, and routing requested material to other libraries,

Records receipt of library materials and prepares for circulation by applying RFID tags, labels, and covers;

Resolves patrons’ complaints or questions regarding library policies and procedures, including assisting or directing patrons to appropriate location of desired materials;

Prepares reports on hold lists, overdue items, and other reports pertaining to patron records;
-
Prepares statistical information, reports, and charts on processed material, including maintaining accurate records of all new or discarded material in circulation;

Orders Department supplies as necessary or requested, including maintaining the library’s postage meter and scale;

Performs special projects as requested, including sorting and distributing mail, participating in the installation of new equipment or furniture, and updating and organizing assigned bulletin boards, and inventorying library collections;

Opens building for service and secures building at the end of shift, including taking patron count, checking conditions of various rooms and equipment, and performing simple cleaning or clerical duties as necessary;

Performs various clerical duties as necessary including answering and routing phone calls, scheduling meeting rooms, renewing materials, filing documents, and preparing signage;

Assists department head in counting and reconciling cash intake;

Prepares library materials for delivery to other libraries and makes appropriate changes to the online circulation system;

Discards unwanted materials and performs minor book repair,

Enters short bibliographies and completes holding records, including completing holding records by entering book title, author, ISBN number, negative barcode, call number, price, and status;

Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to volunteers and new employees in the same or similar class of positions;

Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
