Scottsdale Hip and Knee is a small orthopedic surgery practice in Scottsdale focused on hip and knee arthritis care and hip and knee replacement surgery. We are a highly rated, patient-centered practice with a strong local reputation for kind and compassionate care and quality surgical outcomes.

We are looking for a part-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with prior operating room experience to assist Dr. Albert in surgery 1–2 days per week. This is a focused surgical assistant/perioperative PA/NP role within an established hip and knee arthroplasty practice. We already have a nurse practitioner who supports clinic care and most patient communication and postoperative follow-up. The primary need for this position is first-assisting in surgery and helping with perioperative workflows, including postoperative orders, documentation, and patient communication as needed.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the operating room, takes pride in excellent work, and is looking for a meaningful part-time position in a professional, patient-centered practice. It may be a particularly good fit for someone who wants to stay involved in surgery without carrying a full-time schedule.

Responsibilities

• Assist in hip and knee replacement surgeries
• Provide surgical retraction and intraoperative assistance
• Perform suturing and wound closure
• Help with occasional postoperative rounding or urgent surgical needs
• Participate in alternating weekend phone coverage with our clinic NP
• Assist with limited after-hours postop communication when needed

Surgical days are usually scheduled in advance but may occasionally vary. Some OR days may run longer than expected, so flexibility, stamina, and adaptability are important.

Ideal Candidate

• Certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
• Active Arizona license
• Active DEA license
• Prior operating room experience required
• Orthopedic or first-assist experience preferred
• Personable, dependable, and professional
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to accept feedback and improve
• Comfortable assisting with multiple cases in a day
• Strong suturing skills or willingness to improve quickly

Suturing ability will be assessed during the interview process.

Compensation

• Pay: $55–$75/hour depending on experience and role fit. Most candidates should expect starting compensation in the $55–$65/hour range. Higher starting compensation may be considered for highly experienced orthopedic PA/NP candidates with strong surgical-assisting skills, extensive patient experience, excellent documentation, and proven ability to help manage perioperative/postoperative workflows. There is opportunity for compensation growth over time based on performance, reliability, expanded responsibilities, and demonstrated value to the practice.
