Position Overview

Rock Valley Packaging is seeking a skilled Part-Time Packaging Engineer / Structural CAD Designer with experience in structural packaging design, CAD/CAM systems, and prototype development. This role will primarily focus on designing packaging structures and producing physical samples using our Gerber M Series M1200 sample table.

The ideal candidate will understand both the structural and manufacturing sides of packaging, ensuring designs are functional, production-ready, and optimized for manufacturing efficiency.

This is a structural packaging design position, not a graphic design position.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design structural packaging concepts using CAD/CAM software
• Create production-ready packaging layouts and dielines
• Operate and cut samples on the Gerber M Series M1200 sample table
• Develop customer prototypes and mockups for approval
• Modify existing packaging structures based on customer or production feedback
• Work closely with sales, customer service, and production teams to develop packaging solutions
• Ensure packaging designs meet manufacturing capabilities and production efficiencies
• Maintain organized CAD files, project records, and revision tracking
• Troubleshoot packaging fit, functionality, and assembly issues

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in packaging engineering, structural packaging design, or packaging CAD design; experience with Cimex Corporation CimPACK CAD/CAM software is a strong plus
• Experience operating a Gerber M Series M1200 sample table or similar cutting equipment
• Strong understanding of folding cartons, rigid boxes, corrugated packaging, and retail displays
• Ability to create accurate production-ready dielines and sample prototypes
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple packaging projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Experience in a packaging manufacturing environment preferred

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
