Part-Time Parks & Maintenance Worker

POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Dover is looking for a dependable, motivated part-time team member to help keep our parks, pathways, and public spaces clean, safe, and enjoyable for the community. This is a great opportunity for college students or anyone looking for flexible, hands-on work that builds practical skills in maintenance, landscaping, and facility operations. You’ll gain real-world experience while working outdoors and contributing to your local community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

(Representative, not all-inclusive)

  • Maintaining parks and public spaces (mowing, trimming, trash pickup, and general upkeep)
  • Cleaning and maintaining restrooms, shelters, and City facilities
  • Using tools and equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and basic power tools
  • Helping with small repair projects (painting, carpentry, general fixes)
  • Supporting setup and cleanup for community events
  • Working outdoors and helping keep Dover looking its best

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will be:

  • Reliable and punctual
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Willing to learn and take direction
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather
  • Able to perform physical tasks (including lifting up to 50 lbs)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma (or working toward one) preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely
  • Willingness to work some evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts as needed
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve uneven terrain, inclement weather, and exposure to equipment noise and materials
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and use of hand and power tools
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively to perform assigned duties safely

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

This position is at-will and subject to modification based on City needs. Duties may change as operational requirements evolve.
