Job Description

This position is responsible for processing the biweekly (every two week) payroll for the employees of the Village of Red Hook. The work includes entering and verifying payroll related information according to required timelines, checking overall payroll, then confirming and submitting the information to our payroll processor, ADP.

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for the entire payroll process through the distribution of funds to employees, banks, and tax revenue agencies. The Payroll Clerk is also responsible for payment of Union Dues, funding the HRA, employee related insurance, monthly retirement reports, and any reports related to payroll and employment.

Typical Work Activities

  • Review, confirm, and enter information into payroll system, including hours and benefit time, deductions, exemptions, garnishments, special pay factors and changes in name and address;
  • Confirm periodic payments for outside agencies including payments to annuities, retirement systems, banks for direct deposit, disability insurance companies, Workers Compensation, Social Security, Medicare and federal and state tax agencies;
  • Complete forms and answer inquiries from financial institutions concerning employment, income and deductions;
  • Enroll employees into proper retirement system;
  • Review and confirm salary changes resulting from increments, longevities, and changes in title or salary grade;
  • Interact with personnel from other departments and units to clarify payroll issues and resolve payroll problems;
  • Perform a variety of clerical support work based on unit needs.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Payroll experience required, preferably ADP
  • Computer skills to produce memos and letters, database management and spreadsheets to compile and produce lists and reports, and organize and maintain data;
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work efficiently under strict time constraints
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when required
  • Reliability

Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent and a degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or Bookkeeping and/or relevant work experience in payroll or finance.

PART-TIME: 15 – 20 hours per week, minimum three days per week.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $27.50 per hour
