Part-Time Seasonal Parks/Buildings Laborer

Job Summary:

The Part-Time Seasonal Parks/Buildings laborer supports the Parks Lead Foreman and Buildings Foreman during the peak seasonal months (spring through early fall). This will require safe and efficient operation of light duty trucks and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of sporting/recreation fields, cemeteries, and other public works projects. Personnel in this class are also responsible for undertaking manual labor tasks incidental to the operation of assigned equipment, such as the loading and unloading of material and the performance of unskilled and semi-skilled work on construction and maintenance projects.

Supervision Received:

Works under the general supervision of the Parks Lead Foreman and Buildings Foreman. Foremen will provide instructions with the intention that the work will generally be performed without direct supervision. Work will be reviewed for conformance with instructions and for the safety and care exercised in operating equipment.

Supervision Exercised:

When assigned, will provide general supervision to other crew members.

Equipment/Tools Use:

Operates light duty trucks, riding/walk behind lawn mowers, grass trimmers, and other landscaping and building maintenance equipment.

Environment:

Inside: 1% Outside: 99%

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with routine maintenance and care of town parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, cemeteries, and public grounds.

Perform lawn care duties including mowing, trimming, raking, and leaf or debris removal.

Help with planting, mulching, watering, and weeding flower beds and green spaces.

Support preparation and cleanup of parks and grounds for public events and seasonal changes.

Assist with minor repairs and maintenance of grounds equipment and infrastructure.

Maintain cleanliness and order of work sites, including trash removal and equipment storage.

Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate protective gear at all times.

Respond to direction from the Parks and Buildings Foreman and work collaboratively with other seasonal or DPW staff.

Other Job Functions:

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or maintenance is a plus.

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor.

Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, or holidays if needed.

Knowledge of:

Knowledge of the functions, operation methods and care required for the light equipment used in public works projects. Knowledge of, and ability to use various power tools used in municipal maintenance work. Knowledge of the work hazards and safety practices relating to equipment operations and the operation of equipment under inclement conditions. Knowledge in operation and care of maintenance and equipment. Ability to understand, follow and give oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department Heads, Town Officials, employees and the public.

Pay: $22.84 - $27.50 per hour
