Part Time Skilled Dog Walker

Hiking Paws LLC is a dog walking service that focuses on structured, balanced group hikes that prioritize safety, enrichment, and clear leadership. We value calm energy, strong awareness, and the ability to think on your feet from our staff members. Become a vital part of providing exceptional pet care and exercise for dogs in our community!

This energetic role offers the opportunity to work outdoors, stay active, and build meaningful relationships with pets and their owners. We are looking to hire a skilled, reliable dog handler to join our team for structured off-leash group hikes. Packs can range in size from 2-4 dogs or 6- 8 dogs. This paid position is perfect for those with a background in animal handling, pet care, or veterinary-related fields looking to make a positive impact every day.

What we're looking for in a team member:

  • Physically active and comfortable hiking in all weather (we hike year-round: on steep terrain and uneven ground, 3-4 miles per day)
  • Highly reliable, punctual, and self-directed.
  • Desire and ability to confidently manage dogs in an off-leash group setting.
  • Skills for handling various breeds, sizes, and temperaments, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Monitor dogs’ behavior closely, recognizing signs of stress or discomfort, and respond appropriately to ensure their safety
  • Communicate effectively with team members about all dog’s activity, mood, and any noteworthy behaviors or issues
  • Follow all safety protocols with a calm, clear head. Ability to react and make good decisions in the moment.

Job Responsibililties:

  • Communicate effectively with Hiking Paws owner and other staff members on team.
  • Excellent customer service skills to build trustful relationships with pet owners.
  • Provide confident and compassionate care while handling dogs.
  • Ability to safely restrain and manage dogs during hikes - some are big and strong.
  • Perform Pet CPR and safety protocols for both large and small dogs.
  • Drive company vehicle (clean driving record required).
  • Keep gear organized. Clean vans and equipment at the end of each day.

You will receive training in pack management skills, dog body language, fight protocols, Pet CPR, emergency protocols, knowledge of dog breeds, and recall techniques.
