Position Type: Part-Time, Temporary (2–3 months)

Start Date: End of May/beginning of June

Compensation: Starting at $20/hour

Reports to: Director of Operations

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Temporary Sexton (Custodian) to support weekend operations and events at our church. This position plays an essential role in preparing our spaces for worship services, weddings, and community events, and in ensuring that the building is clean, safe, and welcoming.

This is a part-time temporary position expected to last approximately 2–3 months.

Schedule

• Fridays: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
• Saturdays: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with potential to extend as late as 11:00 PM depending on events)
• Sundays: 8am - 3:00pm

Flexibility is required, as hours may vary based on scheduled weddings and group events.

Responsibilities

• Set up and break down spaces for group events, weddings, and other functions
• Arrange chairs in our different spaces
• Clean and reset spaces following events
• Mop and vacuum floor
• Vacuum entry mats
• Clean bathrooms at the end of the day
• Empty trash in chapel, bathrooms, second and fourth floors
• Unlock and lock the building at the beginning and end of shifts
• Complete special projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Reliable and punctual
• Able to work independently and follow direction
• Comfortable interacting professionally with renters, wedding parties, and members of the public
• Prior custodial or facilities experience preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
• Ability to stand, bend, climb stairs, and move furniture as needed

Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a CORI background check in accordance with Massachusetts law.

This is an at-will position.
