Part-Time Tribal Liaison

10-15 hours per week

Location: Hybrid within Arizona with regular travel to Tribal communities

4th Trimester Arizona is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to ensuring no parent has to navigate pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood alone. We partner across sectors to build community-led support systems, strengthen the maternal child health workforce, and advance equitable, culturally grounded policies that honor the wisdom and traditions of Arizona’s diverse families.

Position Summary

The Tribal Liaison will support 4th Trimester Arizona’s relationships, programs, and collaborative maternal health initiatives with Tribal communities across the state. This part-time role focuses on communication, coordination, relationship building, and culturally respectful engagement with Tribal nations, leaders, maternal health providers, and community members.

The Tribal Liaison will also support the development of 4th Trimester Villages within Tribal communities, contribute to the ASU/4th Trimester Arizona CIP-IMPROVE project, and assist with workforce initiatives involving doulas, lactation providers, and community-based maternal health workers.

Core Responsibilities

Provide regular updates on deliverables to program manager

Key Responsibilities

Relationship-Building & Communication

- Build, strengthen, and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with Tribal nations, departments, community organizations, and maternal health leaders.

- Serve as a primary point of communication between 4th Trimester Arizona and Tribal partners.

- Ensure timely, culturally appropriate, and clear communication about programs, opportunities, data needs, and collaboration.

Program & Partnership Support

- Support the creation, coordination, and sustainability of 4th Trimester Villages in Tribal communities.

- Assist with planning and logistics for community events, listening sessions, trainings, and engagement activities.

- Support Tribal engagement activities related to the ASU/4th Trimester Arizona CIP-IMPROVE maternal health research initiative.

- Help coordinate tribal participation in workforce development efforts for doulas, lactation providers, community health workers, and other maternal health initiatives

Workforce Development

- Assist with outreach, information-sharing, and coordination related to birthworker certification, training, and contracting opportunities.

- Help identify Tribal workforce needs and pathways that honor community practices and align with 4th Trimester AZ initiatives.

Travel & Representation

- Travel to Tribal communities across Arizona for meetings, events, and community engagement activities.

- Represent 4th Trimester Arizona in Community spaces with cultural humility, professionalism, and respect for sovereignty and community priorities.

Internal Coordination

- Coordinate with 4th Trimester Arizona leadership, Village Leads, and project partners to ensure alignment and follow-through.

- Participate in internal meetings and contribute to program planning, reporting, and decision-making.

Required Qualifications

- Demonstrated understanding of Tribal sovereignty, government structures, cultural practices, and community priorities.

- Experience working respectfully and collaboratively with multiple Arizona Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly and maintain relationships over time.

- Ability to travel several times per month within Arizona.

- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple commitments with professionalism.

- Reliable car, drivers license

- Must have own laptop and reliable internet

- Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner

- Availability for at least 5 hours per week of internal or external meetings during standard business hours (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday).

Preferred Qualifications

- Two years’ experience working with Tribal entities and programs (Arizona preferred).

- Two years’ experience with programs in a relevant area such as public health, managed care, Tribal maternal/child health, community programs, or a related field.

- Experience supporting community-based maternal health programs, doula or lactation workforce initiatives, or similar training efforts.

- Experience coordinating cross-sector partnerships or community engagement projects.

Schedule & Compensation

- Part-time: 10 hours per week, including at least 5 hours of availability for meetings during business hours (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday).

- Flexible scheduling, with some meetings and community travel required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour

Experience:
