Parts Runner

Summary/objective:

The parts runner role is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate pickup and delivery of automotive parts and supplies to support the maintenance and repair shop. This role ensures that technicians have the necessary parts and materials available before work begins, helping maintain efficient workflow and minimize downtime. The parts runner also assists with inventory control, parts organization, and basic shop support duties, while maintaining security, accuracy, and effective time management at all times.

Essential functions:

• Receive automotive parts from vendors.
• Deliver automotive parts to various body and automotive repair shops.
• Secure parts for safe delivery.
• Maintain arcuate delivery and pickup logs of all parts as required.
• Perform inventory of parts and maintenance items daily, to include organizing and cleaning of tools, parts, and warehouse areas.
• Stock shelves and merchandise to ensure parts are easily found when requested.
• Verify part numbers, quantities, and descriptions against purchase orders or invoices.
• Provide the shop technician with required parts and all updates regarding inventory.
• Report any stolen, missing, or damaged parts to management.
• Report any issues with company vehicles to management.
• Support other department team members as needed.
• Maintain customer goodwill by greeting and acknowledging all customers.
• Assist customers with any inquiries, requests, or concerns in a timely manner.
• Provide excellent customer service and ensures an ongoing commitment to the needs of the customer and their vehicle.

Skills & qualifications:

• Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to safely operate company vehicles and follow all traffic laws.
• Basic knowledge of automotive parts and supplies preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage time effectively, multitask, and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
• Adaptability and the ability to cope with challenging or changing situations.
• Ability to read, understand, and accurately process purchase orders, invoices, and delivery documentation.
• Effective verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer or inventory system skills to track and record parts.
• Must maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively when interacting with customers.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Willingness to assist in other shop or warehouse duties as needed.

Work environment:

Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and shop environments and is regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, noise, heat, and outdoor elements.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands or fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and/or carry at least 50 lbs and up to 100 lbs as needed, with or without assistance.

This position requires frequent driving of company vehicles for parts delivery and pickup. The employee must have adequate visual ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, read delivery instructions, and identify parts, labels, and safety markings. The employee must be able to enter and exit vehicles repeatedly throughout the workday, sit for extended periods while driving, and operate a vehicle safely in various traffic and weather conditions.

The employee must be able to read and interpret delivery instructions, navigate efficiently, and load and unload automotive parts of varying sizes and weights. Personal protective equipment (ppe) such as safety shoes, safety glasses, and a hard hat must be worn as required by specific work environments.

Position type:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Standard days and hours of work are monday through saturday from 7am to 6pm. Must be able to work 8 hours a day and will be given a regular day off.

Education and experience:

• Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or ged.
• Previous experience in a similar role is an advantage.
