It's an exciting time at Wrays. We've recently joined the Rouse Group, a leading international intellectual property services provider, operating across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. By combining with the Rouse Group, Wrays can now offer our clients and people access to global IP networks, industry leading talent and cutting edge technology, without compromising the personal service that defines who we are.

We are now seeking a qualified Patent Attorney to join our well established Life Sciences Group. As part of one of Australia's most respected technical Life Sciences IP teams-known for its strong ties to both academia and industry-you will work closely with the Group Principals to support and further grow our thriving practice.

The Role

We are looking for a commercially astute and collaborative Patent Attorney to join our Melbourne team. You will bring a client focused mindset, excellent communication skills, and the initiative to identify and pursue new business opportunities.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Drafting and filing patent applications for Australian and international clients
  • Advising local, national, and international clients on IP matters
  • Prosecuting Australian, New Zealand, and foreign originating patent applications
  • Managing and administering client patent portfolios
  • Liaising with clients and overseas associates
  • Preparing Freedom to Operate (FTO) opinions
  • Conducting international patent and prior art searches
  • Building and maintaining your own client network
About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be based in Melbourne
  • Hold a tertiary qualification in biotechnology or a related life sciences discipline
  • Be a registered Patent and Trade Marks Attorney in Australia or New Zealand
  • Have a minimum of five years' experience in patent practice
  • Demonstrate proven business development skills
  • Show initiative, drive, and enthusiasm to work both autonomously and within a team
  • Be a confident and capable communicator with a strong client service ethos
Why Join Wrays?

At Wrays, you will be part of a forward thinking firm that values collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. You will have the opportunity to work on high quality matters, contribute to a respected Life Sciences practice, and benefit from the expanded resources, technical training and international reach of the Rouse Group.

If you are a talented individual looking to progress your career in a successful, dynamic and rapidly growing firm, please submit your resume or contact Tanya Lamb on for a confidential discussion.
